Learn the basics of crochet as you upcycle your old, worn out cotton jersey t-shirts and create a fun and useful basket.
Making t-shirt yarn is a fun way to give your favourite t-shirts a new life after they’re worn out and save them from landfill. You can use the yarn to make colourful craft projects in all shapes and sizes… the only limit is your imagination!
This relaxed pace, small group workshop is designed for beginners as well as experienced crocheters.
You will learn how to:
- transform old t-shirts into yards of chunky yarn
- hold a crochet hook and yarn in a way that suits you
- make a simple round basket using a few basic crochet stitches
We will provide:
- plenty of large crochet hooks and stitch markers if you need to borrow or buy them
- some old cotton t-shirts in case you need them (please bring your own if you can)
- printed worksheets to take home for making t-shirt yarn and crochet baskets
- hot drinks and biscuits (organic and palm-oil free)
What to bring
- a large crochet hook if you have one (size 10-12)
- a stitch marker if you have one
- 3 to 6 old, worn-out t-shirts to cut into yarn for your basket. 100% cotton jersey works best. For example, three size 2XL+, four size XL, five size M-L or six size S.
- fabric scissors if you have them
- £4 in cash if you’d like to buy a large crochet hook to take home

Your workshop host
This small group workshop is led by Anne Nichols. Anne is our resident crochet expert – a creative crocheter with bags of enthusiasm for sharing her skills with learners of all ages and abilities. She has lots of patience and will make sure you gain a good working knowledge of basic crochet stitches – in a friendly and supportive environment.
Refunds and Cancellations
Tickets will be refunded if:
- the event is cancelled
- the event is rescheduled, and you cannot make the new date
- the event changes location, and you cannot attend
If you have been charged a booking fee, unfortunately this cannot be refunded.
If you are unable to attend please email as soon as possible and we will access the request on a case by case basis. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds if:
- you can no longer attend the event due to personal circumstances
- you have changed your mind about attending the event
