Learn all the basics of willow & hedgerow weaving as you create your own beautiful ornamental garden and container supports. For beginners.

Join our beginners willow weaving workshop and learn about this heritage craft from a local expert as you make three different willow structures for gardens and containers.

This is a workshop for anyone who likes to use their hands and wants the satisfaction of creating something unique from locally and sustainably sourced materials. Beautiful and useful, these designs are easy to recreate at home and a wonderful gift for gardeners and house plant lovers.

What will you learn?

  • general willow weaving techniques, also all about the (few) necessary tools
  • green vs. soaked material, sourcing material, storing and the soaking process
  • when to cut and soak willow and what tools to use
  • hedgerow weaving: how to forage for other useful materials in gardens and hedgerows

This relaxed pace, small group workshop series Is designed for beginners and will also suit anyone looking for a refresher. By the end of the workshop you will leave feeling inspired and with the confidence to do your own hedgerow foraging and weaving projects at home.

We will provide:

  • all tools and materials that you will need to create these three projects.
  • guided step-by-step instruction from Hannah
  • organic, Fairtrade hot drinks and palm-oil free biscuits.

What to bring

  • a pen and notebook
  • clothes that aren’t precious or an apron
  • a camera or phone to document the stages of construction if you wish

All requests are confidential, and we offer a no questions asked policy. We will do our best to accommodate, and in the event where the workshop is already full we can discuss future options.

Your workshop host

This small group workshop is led by Hannah Ehlert. Hannah is an experienced and creative local artisan who has been running green-woodworking courses for over 16 years, including hazel wattle hurdles, Swedish spoon- and wood carving and baskets. Her classes combine sociable fun with quiet relaxation as everyone becomes deeply absorbed in their own projects, connecting with nature hands-on. Refunds and Cancellations

Tickets will be refunded if:

  • the event is cancelled
  • the event is rescheduled, and you cannot make the new date
  • the event changes location, and you cannot attend

If you have been charged a booking fee, unfortunately this cannot be refunded.

If you are unable to attend please email as soon as possible and we will access the request on a case by case basis. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds if:

  • you can no longer attend the event due to personal circumstances
  • you have changed your mind about attending the event

Our making and mending workshops bring people together to learn or refresh a range of repair and crafting skills in a friendly, informal atmosphere led by local tutors and volunteers. All profits are used by Simply Repair to fund more repair cafes and share more repair skills.

Our aims at Simply Repair are to reduce waste, share skills, improve wellbeing and build communities. We bring together people with skills to repair and those who want to learn how. We hold repair events where you can get small electricals, clothes, furniture, toys and other household items fixed free of charge.
